Los Angeles, CA — Cabrella Shipping Insurance Solutions helped prevent a potential $100,000 loss involving a high-value shipment from a precious-metals retailer to a residential customer after suspicious activity was identified while the package was in transit.
The shipment was sent via UPS Next Day Air on April 30, 2026. On May 6, the retailer notified Cabrella that the package had stopped tracking. Cabrella’s Claims and Parcel Recovery team immediately escalated the issue to its UPS Security contacts that same day.
By the following day, UPS Security had successfully located the package and determined that it was being held for future delivery near the destination address. The hold immediately raised concerns because neither the precious-metals retailer nor the intended recipient had requested any change or hold on the shipment.
Based on the circumstances, Cabrella and UPS Security believed an unauthorized individual may have gained access to the shipment information and requested the hold, potentially intending to fraudulently retrieve the parcel while it was delayed.
Rather than risk allowing the shipment to remain vulnerable, Cabrella acted immediately and coordinated the return of the parcel directly to the precious-metals retailer, effectively removing it from the suspected fraud scenario and avoiding a potential $100,000 loss.
The incident highlights the importance of rapid escalation and direct carrier-security relationships when high-value shipments exhibit unusual tracking behavior. Within approximately 24 hours of being notified, Cabrella was able to engage UPS Security, locate the shipment, identify suspicious handling instructions, and take action to protect the client’s property.
For businesses shipping high-value goods, speed matters. Cabrella’s combination of active shipment monitoring, established carrier-security contacts, fraud awareness, and immediate intervention can provide a critical layer of protection when something about a shipment simply does not look right.
